ABOUT THE ARTIST

"I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't have a hobby."

                                                       -Larry Smith

Diagnosed with MS about twenty-nine years ago, Larry Smith's life changed dramatically.  He and his wife accepted this news in stride. Then, in 1989, while building Smithville, Larry lost his left hand in a construction accident. The building of the birdhouses arose out of these life challenges.  To feel that he still had a purpose in life, he began to build these beautiful structures as gifts for his family and friends.

To cultivate his love for history Larry focused on historical buildings of America. It was important that these creations reflect the past, but also the future in that he uses only the finest wood to preserve these birdhouses for any environment. These extremely unique homes are architecturally and visually exact replicas of the historical building.

"It's for the Birds" has been an amazing 'retirement' hobby for Larry and I. We have met wonderful people around the United States. We continue to be blessed by God on the venture!
